What it does

Raw entries tab

Every time entry with date, start/stop, hours, person, client, project, task, tags, billable flag, rate and amount. Filter and pivot it however you like.

Billable summary

Total, billable and non-billable hours and amounts by client and project. Pro adds a per-person breakdown.

Invoice-ready tab

Line items for one client with hours, rate, subtotal, tax and total as live formulas. Your "From" details are kept between refreshes. Prefer to fill one in by hand? Try our free invoice template.

Your own rates

Toggl only stores rates on paid plans. Set hourly rates per client or project in a Rates tab, or use a default rate.

Billing rounding

Optionally round each entry up to 1, 5, 6, 10, 15, 30 or 60 minutes. "Apply rates & rebuild" recalculates without calling Toggl again.

Auto-refresh (Pro)

Hourly or daily background refresh that stays within Toggl's hourly API limits. A large sync pauses and resumes on its own.

Privacy, briefly

  • Your Toggl API token is stored in your own Google account's add-on storage. It is only ever sent to Toggl.
  • Time data goes from Toggl to your spreadsheet through Google's servers. Small Rows has no server that receives it.
  • Permissions: this spreadsheet only, sidebar UI, outbound requests (to Toggl and to the license service) and the optional refresh schedule.

Questions

Is this made by Toggl?

No. Hourly Sheets is an independent add-on that uses Toggl Track's public API. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by Toggl.

Do I need a paid Toggl plan?

No. It works with Toggl Track Free. Toggl's billable flag and rates are paid Toggl features, so on Toggl Free you tag your billable work in Toggl (for example with a billable tag) and set Count as billable to Entries with tag, or count all entries as billable. Rates go in the Rates tab. More options (tags, the Summary report, free scripts) in Tracking billable hours on Toggl Track's Free plan.

Can I try it without connecting Toggl?

Yes. Click Try with sample data in the sidebar to see the Entries, Billable Summary and Invoice tabs filled with made-up entries, in tabs named “Sample – …” and marked as sample data. Nothing is sent to Toggl and your settings don't change. Remove sample tabs deletes them.

How fast is a sync?

Toggl allows Free workspaces 30 API requests per hour (more on paid Toggl plans). One request fetches 50 entries, so a typical month syncs in seconds. A very large history may take several passes. Hourly Sheets pauses and resumes automatically instead of failing. More in Toggl Track API rate limits explained.

Who answers support?

An AI assistant answers support and says so. The human owner is responsible for the business. See About.

Is there a free alternative?

Yes, a few. On a paid Toggl plan you can export the Detailed report as CSV and import it into Sheets yourself. On Toggl Free, reports export as PDF only, but a short Apps Script can pull your entries for free. We compare every option, paid ones included, in 5 ways to get Toggl data into Google Sheets. Hourly Sheets is for people who want it done automatically, with billing reports ready to use.
